The Cleveland Hill Union Free School District is pleased to announce the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program for the 2009-2010 school year.

The following is a overview of some of the program guidelines:

  • UPK is funded by grant from the NYS Department of education.
  • If more students apply than the grant funding provides for, a lottery drawing will be used to determine enrollment for September.
  • It will be a half day program. Children will attend for 2.5 hours in the morning or afternoon.
  • Bus transportation will not be provided.
  • Parents must make a commitment to participate in their child’s educational program.

In order to be eligible:

  • The child must reside in the Cleveland Hill School District.
  • The child must be 4 years old by December 1, 2009.
  • The child must meet all medical requirements for school attendance.
  • Parents must make a commitment to regular daily attendance (students attending would be expected to abide by the district’s attendance policy/attendance all 5 days).
Program components:
  • Age appropriate learning experiences which focus on developing children's social, emotional, physical and language skills.
  • A balance of active and quiet play, individual, large and small group instruction.
  • Exposure to language rich, hands on learning.
  • Active and on-going parent involvement.
