The Cleveland Hill Union Free School District is pleased to announce the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program for the 2009-2010 school year.
The following is a overview of some of the program guidelines:
- UPK is funded by grant from the NYS Department of education.
- If more students apply than the grant funding provides for, a lottery drawing will be used to determine enrollment for September.
- It will be a half day program. Children will attend for 2.5 hours in the morning or afternoon.
- Bus transportation will not be provided.
- Parents must make a commitment to participate in their child’s educational program.
In order to be eligible:
- The child must reside in the Cleveland Hill School District.
- The child must be 4 years old by December 1, 2009.
- The child must meet all medical requirements for school attendance.
- Parents must make a commitment to regular daily attendance (students attending would be expected to abide by the district’s attendance policy/attendance all 5 days).
Program components:
- Age appropriate learning experiences which focus on developing children's social, emotional, physical and language skills.
- A balance of active and quiet play, individual, large and small group instruction.
- Exposure to language rich, hands on learning.
- Active and on-going parent involvement.
